The general term vets use for mite infestation is "mange".  This is basically parasites living in or on your pets skin.

This homeopathic remedy uses nosodes of the mites listed below.  They are Pathogens that cause infections in the skin which is common with open scratch wounds.  Also, homeopathic remedies to help sooth and heal the skin and allow fur to grow back.

Use this Complex as an alternative to common pesticide type products that contain ingredients such as Sarolaner, Spinosad, Fluralaner, Ivermectin and similar type agent as these products have serious side affects.

Common types of mites:

  • demodectic mange (demodex canis)

  • scabies (sarcoptes scabei)

  • cheyletiella yasguri (surface mites)

  • otodectes synosis (ear mites)

  • [neumonyssoides caninium (nasal mites)

  • demodex cati (mange) *seen in felines

  • demodex gatoi (mange) *seen in felines

Demodectic Mange is a parasitic skin disease in dogs caused by mites that live deep in the hair follicle.  It is also known as red mange or most commonly demodex.  This is the most commonly seen type of mite in dogs.

The demodectic mite is microscopic.  It is thin and long and has eight lets and lives inside the hair follicle.  They are so tiny that several mites can actually live in one hair follicle.  The life cycle is approximately 20-35 days.

Most dogs will carry the demodectic mite and not have any issues but if your pet becomes unwell or becomes immune compromised then a flare up might be seen.

In some cases your pet may become itchy and scratch making the skin red and sometimes open, which can lead to a secondary skin infection and can also cause mild to severe hair loss.

Demodex is also common in puppies as it can be passed on from the mother.

The cause of Demodectic Mange is a compromised immune system such as:

  • cancer

  • infections (past or current)

  • heart worms

  • intestinal worms

  • thyroid issues

  • pregnancy

  • lactating

  • bitch in season

  • over use of medications such as steroids

  • diabetes

Localized Demomdex meaning it only multiplies in a small amount and affects only a small contained area on your pets body.

Generalized Demodex affects larger patches of your pets body and usually means there is an underlying health issue.

Demodectic Pododermatitis affects the paws.

Certain types of mites, such as scabies and surface mites are highly contagious between dogs and sometimes between dogs and people, as a result of direct animal-to-animal contact.  Fortunately, most of the mites that affect dogs are not the same as those that affect people and vice versa.

Symptoms of Mites:

Demodex causes mild to severe hair loss, patchy red areas, crusty skin, skin scaling and sometimes a smelly oily discharge from the affected areas.

Scabies causes severe itching which often leads to hair loss.  Most commonly affected are the abdomen, chest, elbows, feet and ear flaps.

Surface Mites can cause mild surface irritation and live off the dead dry skin flakes.  They don't burrow into the skin, instead they live on the skins surface.

Ear Mites focus on the head area causing your pet to shake their head franticlly, scratch,m rub their head on the ground, trees, furniture or whatever they can find.

Nasal Mites can vary in degree of infestation.  If the infestation is severe then the respiratory system can also be affected.  Symptoms can vary depending on infestation, sneezing or reverse sneezing, nasal discharge, increased breathing, head shaking, scratching the nasal area, high pitched coughing, restlessness.  Sometimes light specks can be seen in the nasal area.

FELINES

Demodectic mange is common in dogs but quite rare in cats but the Siamese and Burmese breeds are more susceptible and as with all animals that have mites there is usually an underlying immune issue.

Demodex gatoi and Demodex cati causes extreme itchiness, hair loss around the head, neck, eyes and abdomen.  Scratching causes open wounds which can lead to secondary skin infections.

If your pet has any of the above mites, we recommend having an extensive Hair Analysis test done for your pet..  This will give you an insight into what is happening in the back ground with your pets system.  We can look at the many possible immune compromising pathogens, make a complete diagnosis for your pet and send you a prescription complex specifically for your pets health issues.  A small sample of hair is needed for this test.  Please see guidelines on our Hair Analysis page.

Please take into consideration the life cycle of mites (20-35 days) when dosing your pet and keep up the dosing well after 35 days to assist with a full recovery.

 

Dosage: Homeopathic remedies

10 drops on to fur in between shoulder blades, four times per day. 

For acute symptoms dose every 5 minutes for the first hour.  Then dose every 30-60 minutes for the next 12-24 hours.  Then 5-10 times a day.  Can also place 10 drops in animals water bowl.
